Hafod waste tip at Aberdyberthi Street pre-1961 City & County of Swansea:  Swansea Museum | Tomen gwastraff gwaith Hafod wrth Stryd Aberdyberthi – cyn 1961 Dinas a Sir Abertawe. Amgueddfa Abertawe

Pentrehafod School was opened in 1976 but from the 1860s, until the land was cleared in 1973, it was the site of a 60 metre high waste tip for the Hafod Copperworks.

When all of the tips in the copperworks and along the Tawe had reached their capacity, thenew waste tip was established to the west of the works, on land that had once been Pentre Mawr Farm

Powered by a stationary engine at the tip, a tramway ran on a wooden gantry, high above the Swansea canal and the mainline railway, hauling wagons of copper slag waste from the copperworks to be emptied at the tip next to the copper workers’ houses at Trevivian.
